Art to hit hospital’s small screens

Tony Jones, CY O'Conner - Coogee, 1998St John of God Murdoch Hospital is bringing art directly to patients’ rooms, through an Australia-first dedicated arts television channel for patients.

‘Makers’ is a unique project that brings to life the artists and their works to patients physically not able to leave their rooms to see the artworks on the walls throughout the hospital.

In a series of 30 minute programs, artists explain their work in the hospital’s collection and speak about their lives.

Each episode features a different artist, including sculptor and painter Hans Arkeveld from the University of WA Anatomy Department where he has been in residence for over 30 years, photographer Frances Andrijich whose work can be found in international magazines, books and campaigns and well-known sculptor Tony Jones, a sculpture teacher who has influenced generations of artists.

Future documentaries will feature Aboriginal artists, children’s book illustrators and winners of the Mandorla Art Prize, one of the foremost religious art prizes in Australia.
