New medical centre provides modern link

???????????????????????????????St John of God Murdoch Hospital’s new Wexford Medical Centre, completed in March 2014, brings a modern aesthetic and almost double the consulting suite space to the existing Murdoch campus.
The centre has seventy consulting suites  to enable specialists to provide a wide range of medical specialty services, including orthopaedics, cardiology, obstetrics and urology.

The seven floor medical centre also eatures radiology, pathology and a cafe.

“The Wexford Medical Centre was animportant piece of the campus development puzzle,” says Basil Vogas, Director of Silver Thomas Hanley, the architectural firm responsible for the design of the facility.

“It was strategically located to provide a direct route between St John of God Murdoch Hospital and Fiona Stanley Hospital for patients and medical professionals and flanked by a plaza concourse to create multi-purpose public space.”

Now, the existing brick and red tile aesthetic of the historic campus is  balanced with the modern feel of the medical centre and a new wing that is being built adjacent to the medical centre.

“By allowing the new buildings to develop their own aesthetic the campus will start to mature as a considered urban environment, infusing vitality and design opportunity throughout the site.”

The Medical Centre is named after Wexford, a port city south of Dublin in Ireland, which was the founding place of the Sisters of St John of God. In 1895, the Sisters left Wexford to start their healing mission in Western Australia.
